Morgan Abbott joined the Office of Counsel in July 2021 where she advises Duke University and Duke University Health System on matters involving tax and nonprofit law, tax audits and tax-exempt organizations, corporate formation and governance, employee and executive compensation, endowment spending, philanthropy and complex giving arrangements, government relations, affiliated entities, and payroll.
Prior to joining Duke, Ms. Abbott was in private practice with a prominent southeast law firm where she counseled tax-exempt organizations, philanthropic foundations, universities and health systems, and donors on a variety of tax, corporate, compliance, governance, and philanthropic needs. Before becoming a lawyer, she worked in international nonprofit management and early-stage foundations.
Ms. Abbott received her undergraduate degree in Public Policy and Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her law degree from Duke University School of Law.
