Assistant General Counsel
Morgan Abbott joined the Office of Counsel in July 2021 where she advises Duke University and Duke University Health System on matters involving tax law, tax audits and tax-exempt organizations, employee and executive compensation, payroll, pension and welfare benefits, corporate governance, and general contract matters.
Prior to joining Duke, Ms. Abbott was in private practice with a prominent southeast law firm where she counseled tax-exempt organizations, universities and health care systems on a variety of tax, compliance and governance needs. Before becoming a lawyer, she worked in international nonprofit management.
Ms. Abbott received her undergraduate degree in Public Policy and Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her law degree from Duke University School of Law.
