Ralph McCaughan joined the Office of the General Counsel in 1981. His practice includes corporate governance, research grants and contracts, technology transfer, corporate finance, student financial aid, immigration issues, conflicts of interest, and charitable giving. Before joining the Office of the General Counsel, Mr. McCaughan practiced law in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is a graduate of Duke University (AB 1961) and the Duke University School of Law (LL.B 1966), and is admitted and licensed to practice law in North Carolina, Florida, and the District of Columbia. He is a founder, Director Emeritus, and past Chairperson of the Board of Directors of The Jazz Foundation of North Carolina, Incorporated. Mr. McCaughan served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1963 during which period he served as the Supply Officer of the destroyer USS Basilone (DD-824).
